Operating Room Multifunction Cable System™
The Operating Room Multifunction Cable System™ is a newly patented technology available for licensing. For much of medical history the link between microorganisms and infection was unknown, but today the growing prevalence of antibiotic-resistant organisms has made healthcare-associated infections, particularly surgical site infections (SSIs), an urgent concern. Modern infection-control measures, such as sterile technique, improved ventilation, barrier draping, and prophylaxis, have greatly reduced this risk. Unfortunately, the contemporary operating room remains vulnerable due to non-sterilizable devices, loose wires, suction tubing, and power cords routinely cross sterile barriers, creating tangles, handling events, and opportunities for contamination. This fragmented setup is time-consuming to assemble, increases cognitive and physical load on OR teams, and raises the chance that a non-sterile element will breach the sterile field, causing costly clinical and operational consequences.
Special Features
Unified, pre-sterilized multi-conduit cable system that consolidates energy, suction, and device pathways into a single sterile workflow to simplify OR setup
Supports improved patient outcomes by reducing surgical site infection (SSI) risk
Minimizes cable tangling and instrument changes, reducing intraoperative delays and improving staff efficiency
Sterile terminus organizes, docks, and dispenses instruments for orderly access at the sterile field
Incorporates mechanical dispensing and retraction to manage slack and clutter, lowering contamination and trip risk
Includes dedicated lumina for smoke evacuation routed adjacent to electrosurgical tools to capture plume at source and support OR air-quality practices
Employs standard plug-and-play connectors to ensure compatibility with existing electrosurgical generators and OR suction systems
Offered as a single-use, disposable configuration to eliminate reprocessing and reduce cross contamination risk
Designed with primarily mechanical elements to simplify manufacturing and support efficient regulatory pathways
Supports combination-source tools, enabling streamlined instrument integration within one kit
Reduces case setup and turnover time by minimizing the number of sterile items to assemble
Lowers total cost of ownership by shifting labor and reprocessing burden off hospital workflows
Modular architecture allows additional conduits or connectors for advanced integrations without redesigning the core system
Improves clinician experience through a predictable, low-clutter sterile field with fewer interruptions
Simplifies inventory and purchasing by bundling common tools and connections into a single SKU
Constructed from high-quality, medical-grade, sterile materials validated for biocompatibility and reliable OR performance
PRODUCT FEATURES & BENEFITS
PRODUCT DETAILS
The Operating Room Multifunction Cable System™ is an improved, market-ready multifunction cable system streamlines the flow of instruments, energy, and suction into a single sterile delivery component that eliminates the traditional “tangle” of cords and tubes in the operating room. This product ships pre-sterilized with multiple conductors and lumina encased in a protective outer jacket so that a single, secured cable can route necessary connections from the non sterile equipment zone to the sterile field. At the sterile end, a purpose-built terminus organizes and docks instruments and is configured to accept a smoke-evacuating monopolar electrosurgery instrument, enabling orderly instrument access while protecting sterility.
Physically, the system is a unitary cable that contains discrete internal channels for electrical leads, suction, and smoke-evacuation adjacent to active energy tools. These conduits are routed within the housing to avoid crossing and entanglement. The sterile terminus contains mechanical dispensing and retraction elements, such as a spool or spring mechanism, that allow instruments to be withdrawn for use while preventing excessive slack in the field when instruments are idle. At the non-sterile end, the cable fans out into standard connectors, making it compatible with existing electrosurgical generators and hospital suction sources without requiring new capital equipment.
Operation is straightforward and matches existing OR workflows while reducing manual handling. Staff remove the pre-sterilized kit, secure the cable to the drape or table anchor points, and attach the fan-out connectors to the appropriate non-sterile sources. Instruments are stored in the terminus and are dispensed by pulling them from the holder. The cable unwinds additional conduit as needed, and instruments are retracted back into the terminus with a simple button push when no longer required. The monopolar smoke-evacuation instrument connects at the proximal end with electrical and suction lines that may be arranged coaxially or side-by-side to preserve instrument ergonomics and avoid tangling.
The Operating Room Multifunction Cable System™ is a unified, pre-sterilized multi-conduit cable system that consolidates energy, suction, and device pathways into a single sterile workflow component to simplify setup and protect the sterile field. It has a sterile terminus that organizes, docks, dispenses, and retracts instruments to actively manage slack and reduce clutter. Offered in a single-use, medical-grade configuration, this product reduces handling and reprocessing, lowers cross-contamination risk, and supports improved patient outcomes by helping to reduce SSIs while streamlining OR efficiency
Clinically and operationally, the Operating Room Multifunction Cable System™ reduces setup complexity, shortens turnover time, and lowers the frequency of sterile-field handling events that can introduce contamination. Dedicated smoke-evacuation lumina capture plume at the source to support OR air quality and staff safety, while the single-use sterile configuration removes the hospital burden of instrument reprocessing. This helps reduce cross-contamination risk and the incidence of surgical site infections (SSIs). By consolidating common intraoperative connections into one SKU, the system also simplifies purchasing and inventory management for perioperative services. From a product development and commercialization perspective, the design emphasizes primarily mechanical solutions to minimize complexity in manufacturing and regulatory validation, while a modular internal architecture allows additional conduits or connector variants to be introduced for higher-level integrations without redesigning the core delivery system. Whether deployed as a fully disposable kit or as a hybrid model with reusable capital instruments and disposable delivery cable, the Operating Room Multifunction Cable System™ aims to improve OR efficiency, staff safety, and patient outcomes by addressing a persistent gap in current surgical workflows.
